La Befana, pictured in Le

This is La Befana, a representation of a female legendary figure in Italian culture. According to tradition, Italian children receive their presents from La Befana on the evening of the 6th January, also known in the Christian calendar as the Feast of the Epiphany. Opinion is undecided as to the origins of this custom; however, many places in Italy devote the day to a public ceremony in which children receive presents.
