The view from the train:

The railways provide a really good way to see the Italian countryside as this view shows. Moreover (and with some caution), it is possible to travel on older rolling stock that have 'manual' windows which you can lower to take photographs. Do this with caution though - not only is it possible to loose your head on a passing post but you can risk annoying other passengers by creating draughts and nullifying the air conditioning! The train is descending towards the town of Aosta in northern Italy; the castello in the distance is typical.
